With advances in health and medicine, people are looking and feeling younger for longer. And this is especially true for women. Some women in their 60s today look better than women in their 40s did twenty years ago.
Nevertheless, finding a man for romance or a relationship can still prove difficult for women in their 60s. However, with the growth and acceptance of the Internet as a legitimate forum and tool for men and women to meet and form relationships, that difficulty can be overcome with a little guidance, perseverance and a positive mental attitude.
Although women in their 60s may not be as tech savvy as their younger sisters, most ladies of this age are familiar with the Internet and the concept of online dating. For those who may feel there is still a stigma attached to this phenomenon, bear in mind that, according to a recent study, of the estimated 70 million people around the world registered as using online dating services, around 5 million are over the age of 55. That’s quite a significant proportion!
If you are a woman in this age bracket and are hesitant to start using online dating as a way to meet a man, there are plenty of dedicated dating sites just for people of certain age brackets (Baby Boomers). This means you will be meeting and chatting online with men of your own vintage, and you will not be subjected to any unwanted attention from younger men. Unless of course, that is what you are looking for. And there is nothing wrong with that! In fact, there are plenty of dating websites that cater to that very niche – younger men looking to meet older ladies.
Some of the reasons older females give for not trying online dating revolve around security issues. Most of the bigger online dating sites are very safe, and have many measures in place to protect their members. Unfortunately, there is a disproportionate amount of air time and column inches allocated to stories of Internet romances gone wrong, and sometimes with serious consequences. What the press and media fail to do is highlight the great service online dating provides to older citizens who otherwise would have very few options left open to them in their search for love. For every one negative outcome through online dating, there are far more positive ones that are not publicized.
The reasons older women and men are choosing to try their luck with online dating include:
- no interest in the club, bar and pub scene
- lack of financial resources to go out on a regular basis to meet people
- fear of vulnerability in the outside world
- fewer transport options
- reduced physical mobility
- living in remote locations
When older women do decide to take the plunge and join an online dating site, they need to keep in mind some golden rules regarding their security. The most important is to treasure personal information, and not to give away anything in the way of bank account details, credit card numbers of any other data that could lead to fraudulent activities.
However, if women in their 60s are able to protect their privacy and assets, then the potential to meet men online is unlimited.
